If Queen Creek Gets More Public Art, What Should It Represent?

If Queen Creek Gets More Public Art, What Should It Represent?

Queen Creek may be getting a lot more public art around town.

The Town has approved a zoning change that makes it easier to recognize murals as public art rather than treating them like traditional business signs. The change specifically defines murals and creates an exception to the Town's sign regulations. It takes effect October 2, 2026.

And honestly, I think this could be really cool if what gets painted actually feels like Queen Creek.

Not just random colorful walls because murals are trendy.

I'm talking about things that actually tell a story about the community.

The San Tans.

Horses.

Queen Creek's agricultural history.

Cotton.

Peach orchards.

The Queen Creek Wash.

The old cotton gin.

Schnepf Farms.

Or even something more modern that still feels specific to QC.

That's actually pretty consistent with the Town's existing public art guidelines, which identify themes like agriculture, equestrian life, Queen Creek's history, important local places and events, and the desert landscape as potential subjects for public art.

And I think that's the part that could make this interesting.

Queen Creek is growing quickly, but it still has a pretty distinct identity.

The Town's Downtown Core plan specifically talks about creating a district that celebrates the community's culture and heritage and creating a unique environment rather than something that could be anywhere in the Valley.

So if we're going to see more murals around town, I'd love to see them actually reflect where we are.

Not Phoenix.

Not Scottsdale.

Not some generic Southwest design.

Queen Creek.

Side note: The mural shown in this post is NOT an actual proposed Queen Creek mural. I created it as a visual example of what this type of public art could potentially look like.

So I'm curious what locals think.

Are you in favor of seeing more murals and public art around Queen Creek?

And if you are, what do you think should actually be represented?

What feels the most “Queen Creek” to you?

Or are you not a fan of the idea at all?
